Recycling Alternative, is a 100% locally owned and operated recycling business, has been providing waste reduction and recycling services to Lower Mainland businesses for over 20 years.
Recycling Alternative is well known in the community for building innovative and collaborative community models and partnerships such as the Vancouver Biodiesel Co-op, Food Scraps Drop Spots, Vancouver’s first greenHUB and for its work in the community providing inclusive employment opportunities in the recycling sector.
The Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the daily operations at Recycling Alternative, providing leadership and supervision to operational staff (drivers and warehouse staff), as well as participating with the accounting department and owners to create and implement operational budgets. The Operations Manager reports directly to the owners.
The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing efficient and optimized off-loading of our recycling trucks, warehouse sorting, processing and shipping of materials, tracking movement of materials to and from our warehouse.
By working closely with the owners, office and accounting department, this position contributes to the development and implementation of organizational strategies, policies and practices to improve efficiencies and ensure a high standard of staff engagement and operations at Recycling Alternative.

Terms of Employment:
Permanent/Full Time/Weekdays
Salary: starting $45,000+, negotiable based on experience
Days of Work: Monday – Friday*
*Occasional Saturdays/Sundays for various projects. Available by phone after hours as required.

Skill Requirements:
Fork-Lift Certified
Driver’s License
Experience in shipping and receiving
Hands-on approach working as part of a team
Strong ability to assess changing operational circumstances and prioritize tasks to adapt floor operation, staff assignments to meet daily requirements
Able to communicate professionally and respectfully with co-workers
Ability to see the “big picture” (how decisions made in the warehouse affect the overall operations of the company)
Quality control management – knowledge of recycling industry materials an asset
Punctual and reliable
Knowledge and experience in the recycling sector an asset
Oversee shipping and receiving of recyclable materials, including tracking, reporting and quality control
First Aid Certificate
Occupational Health and Safety committee experience, safety conscious at all times
Direct weekly warehouse meetings and on-going staff training, document for WCB
Participate on workplace Health and Safety Committee; implement safety policies
Regular supply inventory, purchasing, tracking and reporting
