Location

Tatamagouche is situated on the Northumberland Strait 50 kilometers north of Truro and 50 kilometres west of Pictou. The village is located along the south side of Tatamagouche Bay at the mouths of the French and Waugh Rivers

Tatamagouche is bucking the trend of rural decline, and has actually experienced a significant population increase over the past few years. The present community leaders, merchants and ordinary citizens alike are busy restoring century homes and opening new businesses. A state of the art library was completed in 2012, and a new soccer field, a baseball diamond and a running track have all been recently completed.  Plans are also underway for the construction of a brand new school for grades primary to grade 12. The old Tatamagouche Creamery has been restored (2010) into a heritage centre (Margaret Fawcett Norrie Heritage Centre), inviting tourists to explore the area’s history. Tatamagouche has much to offer: a great Trans Canada Trail that runs along the Waugh River with Patterson’s Wharf as a picnic destination,  a busy Farmer’s Market, a restored grain elevator with quaint shops, a conference and retreat centre (Tatamagouche Centre), a scenic municipal park overlooking the water (Nelson Park), a completed performing arts centre (Grace Jollymore Joyce Arts Centre), and a cultural centre that recognizes both local and nationally acclaimed artists (Fraser Cultural Centre). We are very proud of our village’s vibrant and fascinating history, and very confident in our bright future. It is a great place to live and bring up a family.
