Nature & Scope:
In this key position on the national ocean team, the Spatial Analysis Manager will report to the National Director, Ocean Program. Your job is to develop and execute spatial analyses and GIS mapping to support CPAWS ocean conservation campaigns in close consultation with colleagues in CPAWS’ national office and regional chapters. Your job will also entail developing and maintaining a spatial data base to support the ocean conservation program.
You will be responsible for developing and completing innovative spatial analyses that identify conservation opportunities on Canada’s Pacific, Arctic and Atlantic coasts, and obtaining and managing the data necessary to conduct such analyses. You will serve as the CPAWS ocean voice in technology working groups across multiple professional organizations.

Qualifications:
University or college degree in geography, biology, ecology or environmental studies or a related field
An advanced diploma or certificate in Geographic Information Systems (or equivalent) plus 3 years practical experience
Clearly demonstrated breadth and strength of skills in geographic information system technology
Experience creating interactive maps using a variety of platforms and software, including Esri’s ArcGIS, Google Earth, , QGIS, other open source geospatial software
Experience developing, implementing and maintaining a spatial data management system
Experience analyzing and manipulating data sets, including with Marxan decision support tool and Python or other programming software
Experience applying GIS to the marine environment
Familiarity with Marine Protected Areas (MPAs), fisheries, marine ecology
Ability to analyze complex problems, evaluate alternatives and make sound independent recommendations
Strong planning, organizational and multitasking skills, and ability to coordinate with multiple stakeholders, meet tight deadlines and manage competing priorities
Detail-oriented, dependable, self-confident, independent and budget-minded
Well-developed interpersonal and relationship-building skills; ability to establish rapport and excellent communication with members, national and chapter staff, stakeholders and volunteers
Assets

MPA design theory and principles
Salary: $50,000 – $65,000 commensurate with experience
