The National Director, Oceans Program will lead CPAWS’ nationwide ocean conservation efforts, collaborate on regional oceans conservation campaigns, and undertake policy work, campaign planning, and federal government, Indigenous, and industry relations work to achieve conservation outcomes on ocean conservation. The National Director, Oceans Program will report to and be supervised by the National Executive Director and will direct and manage policy staff on our oceans team and be responsible for coordinating the oceans program for CPAWS across the country.
This role requires high-level organization, adaptability, and a can-do attitude to ensure campaigns can adapt quickly to situations outside CPAWS’ control, while keeping a clear focus on the outcomes we are working to achieve. The National Director, Oceans Program will seek opportunities for strategic interventions on ocean conservation files to help CPAWS attain its goal of protecting half of Canada’s ocean.
The candidate must demonstrate a passion for protecting Canada’s oceans and wildlife, an ability to think strategically, and exceptional communications, federal government relations, and organizational skills. The National Director, Oceans Program will work to ensure that marine protected areas are well managed in accordance with both national and international standards.
