Coquitlam School District invites applications for a Manager, Wellness.
As the third largest school district in the province we are located within a 40 minute drive from downtown Vancouver. The school district has a population of 33,000 students with approximately 3500 teaching, administrative, managerial and support staff. This position is primarily responsible for planning, implementation and management of temporary and permanent workplace accommodations for WorksafeBC (WSBC) injury/illness claims and non-occupation injuries/illnesses, employee attendance and the promotion of wellness on behalf of School District 43. Working within a collaborative setting, the incumbent will liaise with both internal and external agencies and stakeholders to achieve goals in alignment with work performance standards set out by the School District.
The successful candidate will:
Act as a central point of contact, working collaboratively with all key stakeholders, internal and external in all aspects of Worksafe BC management and non-occupational disability claims including the facilitation of stay at work/return to work programs and implementation of temporary and permanent accommodations.
Provide ongoing advice, guidance and support to staff, and conducting regular audits of the performance of departments for compliance to the Attendance Management policies and procedures.
Promote, coordinate, facilitate, and monitor employees return to work (WCB and non-occ).
Assist in determining resolutions to ‘Duty to Accommodate’ requests
Develop and maintain a written Disability Management/RTW program including policies and/or procedures that support an effective Disability Management/RTW program.
Develop and maintain a system to track outcomes of the Disability Management/RTW Program and a process to address opportunities for improvement of the Disability Management/RTW program.
Monitor employee time loss as a result of workplace accidents or injuries including medical treatment, and rehabilitation.
Make referrals to the appropriate resources as required (EAP, JEIS, physiotherapy, Ergonomic Assessment and Independent Medical Examiner).
Assist in the development and implementation of an evaluation process for work reintegration and attendance promotion and health promotion programs.
Track and analyze metrics relating to employee attendance, identifying areas of opportunity and potential solutions.
Manage and monitor employee short and long term absence rates to minimize employee absenteeism by liaising with the employee, department supervisor, unions, insuring agencies and appropriate community and medical services.
Conduct follow-up attendance counseling meetings with employees and create individualized plans to promote and support wellness and address attendance issues.
Maintain confidentiality of medical and sensitive personal information in accordance with all applicable privacy legislation while focusing planning around the impact of the individual’s medical status on functional abilities and possible accommodation needs.
Oversee the development and implementation of wellness initiatives, conducting risk assessments to identify possible risks/challenges and taking appropriate action.
Other duties as it relates to the safety health, and wellness of employees.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, Health Sciences or equivalent and/or a Diploma combined with specialized training in disability management/ Human Resources, health sciences or equivalent.
Minimum four years of related experience including experience in disability management, return-to-work, accident/injury/illness prevention, and rehabilitation, preferably within a multi-union environment.
Knowledge of human resources legislation and professional practices relating to labour relations, human rights, attendance promotion, HR planning and development, occupational health and safety regulation as it pertains to compensation.
Advanced proficiency of standard computer applications including word processing (Word), spreadsheets (Excel), database management (Access), presentations (PowerPoint), internet searching and email.
Effective oral and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate through a variety of outlets.
Ability to establish collaborative relationships with senior management, employees, external agencies, other post-secondary institutions, and/or the general public.
Effective project management skills, technical competency, and systems thinking.
Ability to work independently and in a team environment
Effective organizational and time management skills in meeting deadlines, prioritizing, and coping with interruptions.
Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality through tact and discretion when conducting research or working with employee information and confidential files.
Ability to perform research, problem solve, organize material, conduct analysis, and evaluate data
Ability to perform routine and complex work with a high degree of accuracy.
Must have valid driver’s license and vehicle; local travel is required
