As part of the Parks Division management team, the Manager is responsible for all aspects of parks operations relating to Urban Forestry, Natural Areas, Horticulture, and Maintenance. This includes the boulevard, park and public tree preservation functions, horticulture and park maintenance programs and the management of the many natural parks/areas within the park system.
The Manager is also responsible for the development and management of the sections’ capital and operating budgets, equipment and staff resources and for all aspects of internal/external liaison functions and community engagement processes for the work of the section.
The successful candidate will provide direct supervision of the Supervisors in the section, indirect supervision for all arboriculture, natural areas, maintenance and horticulture staff, and a variety of consulting specialists or contractors.
Qualified candidates will have a university degree in Horticulture, Arboriculture, or other parks related field; six years of related progressive experience in parks operations and management as it relates to arboriculture, horticulture and natural areas management, including experience in supervision and project management; certification or be eligible for certification with International Society of Arboriculture (ISA). Candidates with an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
