Manager of Recreation Services – Fraser Valley Regional District

The Fraser Valley Regional District (FVRD) is comprised of six member municipalities and eight Electoral Areas, each containing numerous unique communities, cultures and landscapes. The FVRD covers roughly 13,900 square kilometers, equal to more than twice the size of Prince Edward Island.

We are accepting applications from qualified candidates for the position of Manager of Recreation Services located in Hope, BC. Reporting directly to the Chief Administrative Officer the successful candidate will be responsible for the delivery of recreational and cultural services and programs within Electoral Areas “A” and “B”, the District of Hope, and to other partners and communities of interest. This diverse and fast paced environment requires the ideal candidate to have excellent leadership abilities.

The ideal candidate will possess:
A Degree in Recreation Management, Public Administration, Business Administration, or a related discipline;
Minimum of five years related experience in a similar managerial positon, preferably in a local government and/or recreation setting;
Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of recreation, facilities management, administration, and best practices as it relates to this position;
Demonstrated operational, technical, procurement and administrative skills as they relate to this position;
Demonstrated budget administration skills, asset management, and an understanding of local government financing, particularly regional districts;
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to express thoughts and ideas clearly, and ability to converse with a wide range of people including technical consultants, elected officials, staff, and the general public;
Strong project management and organizational skills and demonstrated ability to manage multiple technically complex and challenging projects;
Strong facilitation skills and able to achieve positive outcomes; and
The ability to develop conceptual plans, conduct feasibility studies, and make recommendations or report out to the Commission, Board, and community groups.
The salary for this full-time exempt management position is commensurate with experience and is supplemented by a comprehensive benefit package.
