Manager of Parks and Recreation – Town of High River

This is an unique opportunity to develop and implement best practices and have a significant impact on recreation and parks initiatives in the community. The Manager will act as a coach to the team, providing proactive leadership and supervision to technical supervisors that assist with the oversight of the divisional areas such as: Bob Snodgrass Recreation Complex (aquatics, two arenas, field house, curling club and concession), culture centre, a seasonal spray park, as well as the Town’s park and natural areas. The Manager will administer health and safety programs and develop a safety culture within the team. The successful incumbent will perform independently in an environment that requires ongoing creativity, proactivity and initative to ensure that recreation facilities and programs, along with parks offerings are responsive and aligned to community needs.

To prepare for this position, you ideally possess a degree in Recreation, Physical Education, Business Administration or a related discipline. You possess five (5) years experience in a management or supervisory role, accompanied by 10 years of progressively increased responsibilities or positions. A related diploma supplemented with progressive, related experience may also be considered. Your experience within municipal, provincial, public sector or an equivalent environment will be ideal to successfully transition you into this role. Additional experience in areas such as community liaison, partnership development, customer service, recreation operations, continuous improvement, strategic/business planning, and facility management will help ensure your success in this position. Additionally, your highly developed interpersonal, supervisory, conflict resolution, problem-solving and decision-making skills will align well with your technical experience and knowledge.
