As the “Hub of the North”, the city of Thompson serves as the regional trade and service centre of Northern Manitoba. While the historical economic growth for Thompson has been rooted in mining, Thompson is now considered to be the regional centre for health, education, government, transportation and retail services in Northern Manitoba. Since 2005, several major investments, new developments and businesses have been attracted to the community reinforcing the city’s projected future economic growth. Nearby provincial parks boast of the highest waterfalls and some of the best hiking trails in the province spanning over rugged boreal forest, inviting landscapes, beautiful lakes and numerous islands and campgrounds.

The Northern Regional Health Authority (Northern Health Region) (NHR) was created in 2012 through the amalgamation of the NOR-MAN and Burntwood RHAs. The Northern Health Region is geographically the largest of the five RHAs in the province of Manitoba and covers two cities (Thompson and Flin Flon), 6 towns (The Pas, Gillam, Grand Rapids, Leaf Rapids, Lynn Lake and Snow Lake), 1 RM (Kelsey), 1 LGD (Mystery Lake), multiple hamlets and cottage settlements and 26 First Nations communities.

The Opportunity:
The NHR has an exciting growth opportunity at the Thompson General Hospital for an experienced manager to lead in integrating the principles and best practice standards in accordance with the strategic direction of Behavioral Health and the NHR. Reporting directly to the Director, Behavioral Health, the Manager will oversee day-to-day operations, staff and programming in Community Mental Health, Crisis Facility and Facility Management, and Psychiatric Acute Care including Psychiatric Services, and emergency response programming as defined by Behavioral Health and the Region.

Selection Criteria include:
Baccalaureate degree in Nursing, Psychiatric Nursing or Social Work (BN or BACPN)(Alternate combinations of education and experience may be considered);
Eligible for or registered with appropriate College (CRNM, CRPNM or MCSW);
Minimum of three years’ experience in Mental Health/Addictions;
Minimum of five years’ experience in management and administration;
Knowledge of evidence informed best practices, clinical care standards, patient safety and Accreditation Canada standards;
Orientation/training in the principles of Co-occurring Disorders Initiative (CODI);
Post-secondary education in Health Care Administration or Business Administration preferred; and
Conflict resolution training/certification and performance management training is an asset.
