The District of Mission is looking for a progressive and innovative leader to lead its Inspection Services Division. Reporting to the Director of Development Services, the Manager of Inspection Services manages the programs, staff and operations for the building inspection and bylaw enforcement functions of the municipality. The position oversees the day to day operations of 10 dedicated staff and is accountable for the preparation of reports related to the Division for consideration and approval by the Chief Administrative Officer, committees and elected officials. You will ensure both leadership and support are provided in the development, formulation and administration of policies and programs to ensure the operational objectives of the department are met.
The successful candidate must be a customer service specialist, able to develop and lead high functioning teams. Professional communication and dispute resolution skills are essential as this position guides the resolution of complex and contentious issues, provides advice related to development, bylaws and enforcement, building construction safety, and functions in a leadership role in facilitating development of policies and programs. Interpersonal skills and focus on data-driven decision making are keys to success in this position, as are exceptional written communication skills.
The ideal candidate will have a working knowledge of the BC Building code and related standards and codes, as well as knowledge and aptitude for the development and enforcement of municipal bylaws and an understanding of land use development and planning processes.
You will have your degree or diploma in public or business administration or a related field and a minimum of five years’ experience in a municipal environment, including supervisory experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. You will have good knowledge of municipal government and budgetary control. Strong computer skills are required.
