The Role
As a key member of Regional Power, you will report directly to the Vice President, Development & Operations, and work closely with the Manager, Technical Services, and complement each other’s role.
You will be responsible for achieving the best possible performance of the facilities, optimizing safety, generation and budget. You will manage the day-to-day activities of the site operators, prepare and implement business plans, and champion safety in all aspects.
You will be responsible for operating data acquisition systems, processing and analyzing data from operating facilities and producing reports comparing datasets to baseline and benchmarks.
Being in charge of your approved works and procurement, you will strive to achieve a good balance between productivity, risk, and cost at all times to ensure the highest levels of safety and reliable energy supply to the respective utilities. In addition, you will be expected to drive environmental, safety and operational performance culture across the facilities.
You will support the management of electrical inspections, repairs and upgrades at the operating facilities. You will provide troubleshooting support of the facilities. Working in a team environment, you will manage the planned and unplanned maintenance cycles, inspection and upgrade works, and the bringing of equipment back into normal operation for the equipment under your charge.
You will utilize your engineering skills for improving data gathering and processing systems and providing value added solutions to the operations.
The Responsibilities
Supervision of site operators and operations supervisor
Lead human resource management of the operations team
Manage operations health and safety program and represent operations in the implementation of corporate health and safety
Management of the annual Business Plan including capital works and the operations and maintenance budget
Review and provide assessment on improving the existing systems and processes related to operation of the power generation facilities
Research and development on upgrades and cost saving solutions
Generation optimization
Supervision of planned & unplanned maintenance and upgrade projects
Provide troubleshooting support for the facilities and operators
Maintain and improve environmental compliance systems and reporting to regulatory agencies
Maintain inventory and maintenance lists and utilize document control systems
Maintain permits and other regulatory documentation for the projects
Manage the preparation of weekly, monthly, quarterly and yearly operations reports
Liaison with accounting department for operations and budget reports
Responsible for approval for works done on site, including invoice approval and expense allocation
Visit sites & ensure plants are safe, well maintained, and are in good operating order
Create within operating staff a culture of continuous improvement
Utilize maintenance management system to document activities and condition
Participation in commissioning of new projects
Data acquisition, processing and analysis of the power generation facilities and preparation of reports
Skills & Experience
University Degree in electrical/civil/mechanical field, or significant and relevant experience
At least 7-10 years of experience supervising similar facilities and/or activities, ideally with experience in hydroelectric or other power facilities
Experience managing the maintenance and upgrade projects over $100,000.00
Ability to multitask and manage concurrent activities
Have the ability to manage and administer contract documentation, permitting documents, and land related documents
Possess a strong command of the English language, both written and oral
Proficient in problem solving or electrical and/or mechanical troubleshooting
Have a strong working knowledge of MS Office suite and MS Project
Have good leadership skills and be able to provide professional judgement while performing the role
Willing and able to travel
