Through the development of environmental programs and tactics you will ensure our community remains sustainable for generations to come. You are a subject-matter, expert who will foster the Town’s commitment to becoming a model environmental community. You evaluate challenges and solve or set standards to address the environmental issues facing our world today by applying your knowledge and understanding of these opportunities.
Implementing plans, projects and programs are all recurring activities that produce measurable results, using such tools as the recently adopted Environmental Master Plan and the Town’s renewable energy goals. We will rely on your diligence in environmental assessment, monitoring and auditing to evaluate how the Town’s activities impact our national park community. You act as our internal sustainability consultant to educate colleagues on emerging trends, programs and issues in sustainability. You liaise externally with all levels of government and our commercial sector to share and represent the Town of Banff’s interest on matters related to environmental management.
You are “a natural” at engaging individuals’ respect and appreciation for our environment that translates into delivery of attainable and sustainable environmental practices. Your reputation is founded on your encouragement and approach to inform, educate and positively reinforce good choices. You measure your success of your influence by observing others adopt environmentally-healthy habits.
You have outstanding talent in strategic planning, relationship-building and have demonstrated success in project management, program planning and execution. Interaction with a wide range of diverse stakeholders has established effective communication in written and interpersonal skills. A degree in environmental science/ management or environmental planning or design, and at least 10 years of progressively responsible experience in a comparable role would be relevant for this position, along with a demonstrated interest in integrated approaches to research, environmental assessment and management.
Strong communication skills in translating scientific concepts to accessible language for staff, decision makers and the public is key in this role, as is familiarity with federal and provincial environmental legislation.
