Maintenance Man – Water & Sewer – City of Castlegar

Located in the heart of the beautiful West Kootenay region of British Columbia, with an amicable climate and endless outdoor recreational opportunities, the City of Castlegar has an employment opportunity for a regular full-time Maintenance Man – Water & Sewer. The shift and hours of work for this position are Monday to Friday inclusive from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. This is a CUPE Local 2262 position. The salary is $31.19 per hour for a 40 hour work week plus an excellent benefit package.

Summary of Position:
Installs new sewer and water service. Maintains and repairs sanitary and storm sewer and water systems. Installs new sewers and water-mains. Operates light equipment. Performs routine maintenance and inspection and other related work as required.

Essential Qualifications:
Grade 12 or GED.
Class 1 Waste Water Collection Certificate and Class 1 Water Distribution Certificate.
BC Driver’s Licence Class 3, with Air Brake Endorsement.
Sound knowledge of methods and procedures for the installation, repair and maintenance of sewer and water systems.
Sound knowledge of methods and procedures in and about construction projects, hazards, condition and limitations of equipment.
Sound knowledge of safe operating and routine maintenance practices and procedures related to machinery.
Experience in operating a variety of small power and hand tools and vehicular equipment.

Desirable Qualifications:
Related plumbing experience in sewer and water installation, cross-connection control, troubleshooting and repair.
