SURERUS is currently looking for a Mainline Superintendent Special Section (Steep slope), who is responsible for all site activities related to the construction of pipelines on steep slopes not constructible by standard pipeline techniques. These construction activities are high risk activities where the superintendent is responsible for direct supervision and coordination of the specialist foremen and subcontractors. The position is also responsible for selection and coordination of specialist equipment, materials and labour. The special section superintendent will be the infield responsible person for all activities ensuring that they are completed safely and to the exacting standard required of both the client and Surerus/Surerus Murphy Joint Venture (SMJV) operating procedures.
.Key Responsibilities:
Working closely with the engineering consultant to ensure a constructible and robust design for specialist sections with particular reference to permanent design
Determines the method of construction, manpower requirements, materials quantities, equipment, temporary power sources, work schedule and documentation. Including the development of safe working practices and methods
Determines the specialist equipment required to complete steep slope construction, liaising directly both with suppliers and manufacturers. This will also include the development and design of in house equipment not readily available.
Part of sub-contractor selection team to ensure that selected subcontractors have suitable experienced labour and equipment to complete tasks
Selection and assessment of competence of construction teams including equipment operators
Assisting in development of site specific training for steep slope working
In field management of all aspects of the construction of pipelines on steep slopes
Liaison with clients specialist inspection team to ensure that special section is completed in line with quality requirements
Responsible for all on-site implementation of Surerus/SMJV & Client safety procedures
Responsible for constructing project to quality level defined in specifications and drawings
Note: In addition to these duties personnel are required to carry out such other duties as may be reasonably required in order to support the objectives of the Company.
Employment Requirements:
Minimum 15 years’ experience in the construction industry in the delivery of pipelines in varying conditions.
Min 10 years’ experience of construction of large diameter pipelines (30” and above) with at least 3 of these with pipeline sizes 42” and above.
Min 5 years’ experience in working in mountainous rocky terrain of slopes up to 50 degrees.
Experience of aerial construction methods – cable cranes, helicopter logistics etc.
Specialist pipeline operator experience on slopes (Pipe layer experience).
Global pipeline experience working within remote areas and camp environment.
Proven safety leadership on similar projects.
Understanding of means and methods of installing large diameter pipelines on steep inclines up to 50 degrees
Advanced knowledge of specialist equipment required for construction on steep slopes including winching, cable crane systems and aerial construction use of helicopters.
Knowledge of rock blasting techniques and associated risks.
Understanding and practical knowledge of operating lifting equipment on steep slopes.
Conversant with global welding standards.
Proven safety leadership on similar projects.

This position is field based and works on a project construction site. Construction sites may be noisy and dusty. The work environment could be outdoors in various weather conditions. Travel and/or living in temporary accommodations may be required. Long hours and shift work may be required.
