Lands and Resources Manager – Sumas First Nation – Abbotsford, BC

Sumas First Nation (SFN) requires the services of a full time Lands and Resources Manager to take on the exciting challenge of building a Lands & Resources department. This position reports to the SFN Manager and works closely with Chief & Council, and the Lands Committee. Preference will be given to Aboriginal applicants. Primary Responsibilities:

Administers the SFN Land Code and provide expert and strategic advice on all matters pertaining to SFN Lands.
Monitor all leases on SFN Lands to ensure terms & conditions are being met.
Take a lead role in the development of land administration and resource related policies, procedures, by-laws and laws.
Supervision of staff in the Lands & Resources Department and development of the annual departmental budget, work plan, policies and procedures.
Develop, negotiate and process land lease agreements, sub-leases, permits, rights of way, additions to reserve proposals, allotments, transfers and other legal documentation pertaining to Sumas First Nation lands.
Develop and implement information management systems for the Lands & Resources Office.
Strategic planning, in cooperation with other SFN departments.

Qualifications and Experience:

Experience conducting high-level communication with financial institutions, funding agencies and all levels of government is required.
Three to five experience in a related position is required.
Post-Secondary certification in Business, Land/Resource Management or a related field is preferred.
Experience with First Nation Land Code is preferred.
Experience working with First Nation communities and committees,
High level of competency using computer software including Microsoft Office or equivalent.
Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
Experience working with confidential information and the ability to be professional in stressful circumstances.
Solution oriented thinker who is capable of working independently and as part of a team.
Appreciation of Sto:lo culture, would be an asset.
A valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License and completion of a criminal records check is required.

Salary Range: To commensurate with qualifications and experience.
