Engineering Operations is seeking a hardworking and team oriented individual to fill a Labourer vacancy. Reporting to a Supervisor, you will perform general labour duties and assist the crews in sewer and water construction, repair and maintenance work. You will also be required to use various hand tools and small equipment related to the work. As a labourer, you may also be required to work within other Engineering Operations sections including Solid Waste & Recycling and Streets & Sidewalks.
Requirements include:
Grade 12 graduation (or equivalent) supplemented by demonstrated experience in the maintenance of municipal water and sewer services and facilities, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Completion of BCWWA Water Distribution Level 1 and/or Wastewater 1 would be considered an asset.
Demonstrated experience in the methods, materials, tools and equipment used in the maintenance, installation and repair of municipal water and sewer services and facilities.
Knowledge of and ability to follow safety regulations required in the work.
Ability to effectively perform tasks with minimal supervision.
Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
Ability to maintain effective working relationships within a team environment.
Ability to work effectively and courteously with other City departments and a variety of external contacts.
Ability to provide exceptional customer service.
Physical aptitude to perform manual labour and to work in all weather conditions.
Must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License; however, preference will be given to applicants with a valid Class 3 BC Driver’s License with Air Brake Endorsement, backhoe certification and/mid-size to large equipment experience.
The successful candidate will be required to pass and maintain a clear Police Information Check.
