We are currently seeking the right person to fill the position of the Inspections & Licensing Manager. This management position is a Department Head position, responsible for the operation of this Department, and preparing capital budgets, departmental policy, interpretation of the Land Use Bylaw, Council policies, building permit process, parking, taxi, licensing bylaws; administration of staff, designated Safety Codes Officers, Permit & Licensing Supervisor and Building Standards Conformance Officer, and the coordination of contracts for Animal Control, Commissionaires and City Hall Building Maintenance services and special projects not related to the above.
As our preferred candidate you will have:
Graduate of a recognized University with an Engineering, Architectural, or Urban Planning Degree.
Five or more years with direct experience in major construction and/or in a senior management/supervisory position.
Safety Codes Officer designation (Optional)
Practical experience in residential and commercial development areas.
Working knowledge of data bases, word processing and spreadsheet software.
Municipal Certificate in Local Government
External knowledge of the Provincial legislation relative to zoning and related codes and ordinances and City Bylaws relative to the Inspections & Licensing Department.
Knowledge of the legal aspects of by-law enforcement.
Must be a team player and have strong interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with the media, developer’s architects, contractors, and the general public.
Effective organizational and analytical skills.
Ability to deal effectively with diverse, complex issues, usually involving tight timelines.
Alberta Class 5 driver’s license is required.
