Job Description
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Impact and Development Manager will be responsible for leading Apathy is Boring’s impact measurement and fund development department. The Impact Manager will work closely with the Executive Director to communicate the impact of Apathy is Boring’s work to key stakeholders and develop the fund development strategy for the organization. This includes researching and prioritizing funding opportunities, donor and client stewardship and cultivation, sponsorship development (in-kind), and overseeing grant writing and proposal development. They will also oversee the implementation of internal research and evaluation processes for internal and external purposes. The Impact Manager will be expected to keep up to date on relevant funding opportunities and trends within the field of youth civic and political engagement while ensuring that Apathy is Boring’s work is well-represented to external stakeholders.
Fund Development – 40%
Collaborate with the Executive Director to create and execute fund development strategy.
Research and track potential donors and revenue sources.
Support with the identification and cultivation of new donor and client leads with an aim to develop a healthy and diverse base of funding partners, including earned revenue and consulting contracts.
Research and monitor relevant calls for proposals and supervise grant writing and proposal development.
Support on meetings and engagement with key stakeholders including government officials and MPs.
Research and Evaluations – 25%
Collaborate with the Executive Director to create and execute the evaluations plan.
Ensure all data, research and evaluations objectives are met.
Maintain knowledge of latest research on civic and political engagement among youth.
Develop strategic, impact-related content and communications.
Identify and develop opportunities for external research partnerships and collaboration.
Ensure that impact is effectively communicated and integrated into fund development and donor relations strategy.
Project Management & HR 20%:
Collaborate with the Leadership team to develop resources for programs and projects.
Manage relationships as needed with sponsors, partner organizations and volunteers.
Take part in weekly check-ins with the Executive Director.
Manage, support and evaluate the Research and Impact staff (Fund Development Coordinator and Research Coordinator).
Hold weekly check-ins with staff.
Participate in weekly staff meetings and monthly leadership meetings.
Participate in team-building activities and team-wide training.
Donor Relations 10%:
Ensure that all grant and funder reporting deliverables and deadlines are respected.
Develop pitch decks and presentations for donor asks.
Identify and execute on opportunities for donor appreciation.
Collaborate with the Communications team on the annual fundraising event.
Admin 5%
Ensure the achievement of expected timelines and deliverables, and the efficient use of human and practical resources.
Maintain contacts database.
Ensure that the donor database is up to date and accurate.
Relevant Skills/ Experience
Relevant work experience in a leadership role in a non-profit setting.
Minimum one (1) year management experience.
Experience in fundraising, grant writing and building a client and donor base.
Experience communicating impact, research and evaluations in a fundraising context.
Knowledge of various research methods including qualitative and quantitative and practices. Direct experience with impact measurement, evaluation and/or data analysis considered an asset.
Knowledge of the Canadian non-profit and philanthropic landscape.
Well-developed interpersonal, and relationship-building skills with a strong aptitude for building meaningful relationships with diverse groups of individuals.
Excellent problem-solving skills, creativity and ability to engage various teams and work in a team environment.
Experience working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
Experience with public speaking and strong presentation skills is considered an asset.
