Human Resources Officer
Due to a retirement in the department, qualified applicants are being sought for the position of Human Resources Officer in School District No. 83 (North Okanangan-Shuswap).  The start date for the position is negotiable depending on the availability of the successful applicant but is anticipated that the appointment would be effective November 23, 2015.

The District:
The North Okanagan-Shuswap School District is a widely dispersed district that includes the four major communities of Salmon Arm, Armstrong, Enderby, and Sicamous.  The district provides education for more than 5,800 K-12 students in twenty-two schools with an operation budget of approximately $69 million.  The North Okanagan-Shuswap School District is committed to enhancing a positive work environment for staff and a dynamic and supportive educational experience for students.

The Position:
The Human Resources Officer reports to the Director of Human Resources and is responsible for the delivery of personnel and administrative services related to staffing.  Responsibilities include:

Supervise the coordination of the internal posting and staffing process combined with external selection and recruitment.
Management of processes and systems necessary to maintain personnel records in the Human Resources Information System (SDS and CIMS) and other data bases;
Providing assistance to the Director with the administration of the CUPE and Teachers’ collective agreements.
Assists with the selection, recruitment and staffing of administrative and excluded staff
Manages the accommodation and return to work programs for teaching staffing, including BCTF Health and Wellness Program.
Liaises with payroll and finance regarding payroll and finance issues.
Research and prepare reports as required.
Conducts disciplinary investigations.

This assignment may evolve dependant on the strengths and interests of members of the department.

The Person:
The preferred candidate will have:

A business administration certificate with a focus on human resources management or university degree;
A minimum of five years administrative experience including two years in human resources administration in a unionized environment;
Knowledge of computerized human resource system and proficiency in a Windows environment including Microsoft software;
Demonstrated experience in current interview and candidate selection methods;
Superior clerical skills, plus data management and electronic spreadsheet skills;
Proven ability to plan and follow up on projects;
Ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships and maintain confidentiality;
CHRP certification or eligibility for certification is highly desirable;
Experience in the public sector environment is an asset.
