It is the Head Lifeguard’s responsibility to foster a workplace environment that is oriented to trust, open communication, creative thinking, and cohesive team effort. In addition to lifeguarding and instructing, the Head lifeguard will assist in the mentorship, development, training, orientation and scheduling of lifeguards, instructors and all aquatics personnel including volunteers. The Head Lifeguard will also be responsible for organizing, supervising and participating in custodial tasks and facility maintenance. The successful candidate must be available to work a varied work schedule which includes day, weekend, and/or evening shifts.

REQUIRED LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS AND REGISTRATIONS

Current National Lifeguard Award – Pool Option (NL)
Current Standard First Aid (SFA) or Aquatic Emergency Care (AEC) or actively teaching one SFA recertification annually
Current Water Safety Instructor (WSI)
Current Lifesaving Instructor (LSI)
Current First Aid Instructor (FAI)
Current National Lifeguard Instructor (NLI) (within 1 year of hire)
Pool Operator Level 1
Grade 12 Diploma, GED or equivalent
Satisfactory Criminal Record

EXAMPLES OF REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES

Experience in an aquatic supervisory role
Ability to provide positive leadership and demonstrate team qualities
Ability to make independent decisions, solve problems, and exercise good judgment
Knowledge and experience in pool chemistry and maintenance
Well developed administration, organizational, and customer service skills
Proficiency with aquatic area emergency procedures and experience taking the lead in emergencies
