General Manager – TransAlta Tri Leisure Centre – Spruce Grove, AB

The TransAlta Tri Leisure Centre (TLC), operates as a part-nine, not-for-profit corporation and is a defining element within the Tri-Municipal Region. Designed to service the communities of Parkland County, Spruce Grove, and Stony Plain, the TLC celebrated its opening in June 2002. Meeting the sport, recreational, social and wellness needs of all residents within the Tri-Municipal Region remains a core focus of the TLC. With over 2 million annual visitations, the TLC is a full service multi-use community sport, recreation and wellness facility and offers programs and services to residents of all ages and abilities.

The TLC is managed by a General Manager who provides leadership to a full time and part time staff of 185 (approximately 72 FTEs) through a senior leadership team of three Managers. The General Manager reports to the Tri-Municipal Leisure Facility Corporation Board of Directors comprised of three representatives (1 political appointment and 2 public member appointments) each from the three participating municipalities. The annual budget is approximately $7.5 million.

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the General Manager is responsible for providing leadership and overall management oversight of the TransAlta Tri Leisure Centre. The General Manager will ensure Centre use is optimized, participation is maximized and specific performance measures are achieved. The General Manager assists the Board in the development of a long term strategic plan and establishment of strategic priorities, the development of appropriate policies, and a resource allocation process. The General Manager reports to the Board on organizational plans and performance.

Qualifications & Experience

Extensive experience in the management of a complex facility, ideally a multi-use recreational facility, with a proven track record at a senior management level.

Experience reporting to and working with a Board; understands the importance of building rapport and positive working relations with Board members.

Experience working in municipal government and specifically in the delivery of municipal services; ideally related to community recreation, sport and wellness.

Experience in community development; understands the importance of community engagement and building rapport with community stakeholders.

A relevant university undergraduate degree.

Standard First Aid/CPR and C/AED certifications.

Satisfactory security/background clearance – criminal record and welfare checks.
