The Regional District of Central Kootenay is offering a permanent full time opportunity for a new General Manager, Fire and Emergency Services. As a member of the Senior Management Team, this position is responsible for the overall administration and management of regional fire protection, emergency operations and emergency planning and preparedness for the RDCK.
Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer, the General Manager, Fire and Emergency Services:
Directs the development, implementation and administration of policy and procedures, ensuring the effective operation of 18 volunteer fire halls across the Regional District.
Develops and delivers best practice safety, training and operating standards for our group of over 400 volunteer firefighters through partnerships with 18 Fire Chiefs.
Ensures emergency preparedness, response and recovery services are readily available and administered to each service area within the Regional District through the direction and supervision of their team of Emergency Program Coordinators.
As the Emergency Operations Center Director, this position will lead the operation of EOC staff in the event of emergencies as required.
The successful candidate will have a degree in public administration, business administration or related field, hold progressive NFPA 1021 – Standard for Fire Officer – Level II and EOC Level III Certification and possess extensive experience in Emergency Management, including experience at a senior level. Additionally they:
Possess a deep knowledge of fire and safety practices and standards in British Columbia
Have the ability to partner with stakeholders at all levels including the general public, volunteers, elected officials and other government agency and NGO representatives
Provide leadership to groups spread across a large district
Are responsive to a variety of unique needs from their direct and indirect subordinates
Will be a skilled communicator with the ability to unify disparate groups and influence change
