The Opportunity
The Coady Institute is seeking a motivated professional, committed to excellence, to join our team as Fund Development Officer. Working with the Associate Director, Fund Development and Communications, the successful individual will be responsible for implementing and growing the Coady International Institutes fundraising programs.
This is a full-time permanent position located at the Coady International Institute on the campus of St. Francis Xavier University in Antigonish, Nova Scotia, with potential for some travel.

A Coady Institute education is a transformative learning experience that equips development leaders with new knowledge, practical skills and renewed commitment to build communities and societies. In addition to its internationally recognized Diploma in Development Leadership, the Coady Institute also offer a range of shorter courses related to its thematic interests. Other programs focus on leadership of women, youth, and indigenous people, both in Canada and internationally. In 2014, close to 300 leaders from 52 countries took part in its diploma and certificate programs on its STFX-based campus.
The Ideal Candidate will have:
3-5 years fundraising experience;
Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills (oral & written);
The ability to work effectively with volunteers;
Excellent organizational skills; the ability to multi-task and be deadline orientated.
Familiarity with fundraising databases and work experience in a university environment would be an asset.
Key Functions and Responsibilities
Enhance and grow the Coady Institute’s annual and major gift donors
Coordinate donor communications including proposal writing and reporting
Assist in the planning and execution of donor cultivation and stewardship including research and database management
Maintain comprehensive donor records
Manage our direct mail campaign, donor acknowledgement and donor recognition
Provide leadership and support on all fundraising events
Living in Antigonish, Nova Scotia
Antigonish is a beautiful, vibrant town located in northern Nova Scotia on the Northumberland Strait. About 200 km from Halifax, Nova Scotia and 250 km from Moncton, New Brunswick, Antigonish is known as the Heart of the Highlands and the gateway to Cape Breton.
The region is renowned for its beauty and nature. It’s easy to stay active in Antigonish: there are walking and hiking trails, cycling circuits, glorious beaches and warm water, kayaking opportunities, horseback riding, a Golf & Country club, and a terrific university sports complex for those who like to stay closer to home. The region has a vibrant Arts scene, including Festival Antigonish which hosts some of the finest writing, directing and performing talent in Atlantic Canada, an annual International Film Festival and a variety of other festivals and events.
With a population of 20,000 living in town and the surrounding area, Antigonish is a great place to raise a family. The schools in Antigonish are rated amongst the best in the province and St. Martha’s Regional Hospital, an acute care facility located in the town, provides a range of primary and secondary healthcare services. While the region is predominately Scottish in heritage, Antigonish has a multicultural landscape due to the presence of StFX University and the Coady International Institute.
