Part-time 40 week contract
FoodShare Toronto, in partnership with Flemingdon Health Centre, is looking for a part-time passionate, community organizer with food project and neighbourhood-based organizing experience, in low income, diverse communities. This individual will work with Flemingdon Health Centre to conduct a consultation and design process for market gardens and a vibrant community space.
Detailed job description:
Work with community members, organizations, business community, etc. to create a model for market gardens, design the infrastructure needed for market gardens and vibrant community space.
Work with a Steering Committee of advisors to the process and design
Coordinate and facilitate small group meetings, and large community events to consult and build engagement.
Coordinate trainings to support the key aspects of the project, such as business plan development, growing in urban settings, group decision making,
Support animation of community garden
Create the plan for sustainability
Organizing and delivering workshops, outreach and informational presentations
Participates in Flemingdon Health Centre staff and team meetings
Support writing of funding applications for future sustainability
Completing related administrative duties and evaluations
Participate in building the neighbourhood growing networks
Qualifications and skills:
Minimum 5 years experience in food project and/or neighbourhood-based organizing experience in low income, diverse neighbourhoods.
Experience in food growing an asset
Experience in door to door outreach, leading workshops, and presentations
Strong social media experience, facebook and twitter platforms,
Knowledge of and experience working with people of Toronto’s diverse communities
Organized and bility to work alone and as part of a team are equally important
Proficiency in Excel, Word and data base management
Some evenings and weekends required
Second-language an asset
Living in the area an asset
Hours and Compensation: 3 days a week, 21 hours, 40 weeks, June – March, with additional 30 hrs for major events, $20/hr with benefits
Duration: This is currently a short-tem contract, based on funding. June 15 2015– March 18 2016
