Finance and Administrative Intern – Apathy is Boring

Job Description
The objective of this internship is to enable the Finance and Admin intern to explore career opportunities in the non-profit sector while helping them acquire practical skills in file and document management, writing, evaluation, data entry, and general administration.

The primary role of the Finance and Admin Intern will be to assist Apathy is Boring’s Finance and Admin Team in managing general and financial administration for the organization including document management, IT assistance, Policies and Procedures manual updates, etc. The intern will play a key role in supporting Apathy is Boring’s operational and administrative efforts.
Additionally to working from the comforts of their home, the Finance and Admin intern will have the opportunity to learn about Canadian civics and broaden their perspectives of our country through extensive collaboration with Apathy is Boring’s regional staff based in cities across Canada – including Iqaluit, Montreal, Ottawa, Edmonton, Calgary, Winnipeg, Halifax, Toronto and Vancouver.

Canada Summer Jobs Requisites:
be between 18 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment; with the intention to return to their studies in the fall of 2020
be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment* and,
have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.

Responsibilities:
The objective of the Finance and Admin intern position is to provide quality work experience to a youth employee as they learn practical skills in non-profit financial management, information communications technology, project/event-related implementation and purchasing, archiving, IT support, and general administration.

The Finance and Admin Intern will assist Apathy is Boring’s Finance and Admin Team with:
Managing the general operations and finances of the organization.
Updating Apathy is Boring’s internal web resources — like our policies and procedures manual,
Modernizing Apathy is Boring’s administrative filing system.
Assisting with purchases of project/event-related supplies and equipment.
Organizing logistics associated with Apathy is Boring’s participant programs – like travel bookings, reimbursements etc.
Providing Information Technology (IT) and Information Communications Technology (ICT) support.
The Finance and Admin Intern will acquire valuable professional experience in the nonprofit sector that will be transferable to a wide variety of work settings, including, but not limited to – general administration, archiving, accounting, project management, event planning and more.

Skills/experience:
Previously or currently enrolled in Business, Accounting, Social Sciences, Humanities or related programs at the post-secondary level.
Excellent attention to detail and thoroughness in completing tasks.
Strong active listening skills in taking direction and self-motivated initiation on assigned tasks.
Comfortable and familiar using Google and Office 365 programs.
Familiar with file management methods and systems
Ability to analyse and then categorize information from various sources, such as financial invoices, annual government filings, Funder agreements, administration files, etc.
Proven ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively in a team-based environment.
Demonstrated willingness to be flexible and adaptable to changing priorities.
Good written and oral English skills, and proficiency in written and oral French.

Start Date: Monday, June 15th, 2020
End Date: Friday, September 4th, 2020

Compensation: $14 / hour
