The Centre has an opening for a Farm Coordinator.

The Salt Spring Centre of Yoga, now in its 34th year, is the longest-running spiritual retreat centre on the west coast and is known for its vegetarian cuisine and organic farm. We are seeking the appropriate person or couple to facilitate and participate in the cultivation of approximately an acre and a half of vegetable and flower production as well as half an acre of fruit and nut trees. Most of the produce is used on site in the Centre’s commercial kitchen for guests, program participants, and residents. Excess food may be sold at the farm stand and distributed to a local food bank.

The Farm Coordinator’s main duties will include:

Supervising and working with full season farm staff as well as par-time and volunteer help.
Developing a crop plan with guidance from current Farm coordinator, the kitchen and The Agriculture committee
Seeding for transplants and field
Maintaining crops and managing harvest
Communicating and coordinating with the kitchen and other departments for smooth day to day operations

The successful applicant(s) will have prior farming experience, a strong sense of organization and planning, excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to manage workers. Applicants should also have a strong desire to experience life in a working community based on yoga philosophy and practice.

In keeping with the volunteer nature of almost all work at the Centre, the position offers indoor housing, delicious organic, vegetarian meals, access to all community classes and a stipend. The Farm Coordinator is part of the Agricultural Committee which guides farm policy and practices. The Centre Farm voluntarily relinquished its organic certification a year ago but still adheres to all organic practices.

The Farm Manager will supervise full-time farm workers over the season, running from March through November.
