This individual will be responsible for the Family and Community Support Services portion of the Community Services department.

This is an indeterminate position (37.5 hours/week) responsible and accountable for the identification of social constraints within the community of Slave Lake to develop and implement effective socially preventative programs designed to enhance the quality of life and respond to the needs of the residents.

Qualifications:

University Graduation in a related field such as Volunteer Management, Social Work or Recreation plus two years’ experience.
A related diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution and four years related experience.  Equivalencies considered.
Superior communication skills, including public presentation, knowledge of grants, fundraising, marketing and superior time management skills required.

Position Summary:

Seniors’ Coordinator

Responsibilities and Activities:

Slave Lake FCSS Program strategies, policies and practices.

Identifies, analyzes and interprets internal and external environmental changes regarding the social issues and needs affecting the Slave Lake community.
Develops, evaluates, and makes recommendations on the FCSS Strategic Plan to Director of Community Services and Town Council annually.
Provides quarterly FCSS program status reports to Director and Town Council.
Prepares and monitors annual FCSS budget.
Completes all grant proposals related to this position, and ensues that all audit reviews, reporting and accountability requirements are met.
Provides policy guidance and recommendations to Director of Community Services and Town Council.

Community based programs, special events and services.

Researches and implements effective social programs and events for youth, adults and families designed to respond to the needs identified within the community.
Seeks to inform and motivate the community to act on specific matters of social concern.
Develops program and event budgets.
Negotiates and administrates for contracted services and instructors.
Recruits, trains, appraises and supervises volunteers who are required for programs and special events.
Provides assistance to community organizations through the provision of resources materials, consultation services, training opportunities and access to equipment and space.
Administrates FCSS grant funding to external agencies offering preventative social services.
Seeks to collaborate, cooperate and participate in initiatives with partners that have goals and objectives that are consistent with FCSS philosophy and mandate.
Encourages the coordination of services among various groups with the objective of minimizing overlap, inefficiencies and jurisdictional confusion.
Establishes a Program Logic Model for all programs and services offered, develops tools to measure outcomes and ensures year end reporting requirements are fulfilled to the Province.
Responsible for the marketing and promotion of all programs offered by the Slave Lake FCSS Program.

Staff Supervision:

Directly supervise and support Seniors Coordinator with the development and implementation of effective preventative social programs for seniors.
Approves expense accounts and purchases.
Approves annual budget for seniors programs.
Completes annual employee performance evaluation.
Encourages career growth and development opportunities.

Relationships and Liaising:

Maintains ongoing contact with the Provincial FCSS Directors Network and FCSSAA (i.e. regional meetings, conferences, workshops, etc.)
Maintains ongoing contact with all FCSS external grant funded agencies.
Organizes and attends community Interagency meetings.
Attends weekly Community Services programmer meetings.
Works in conjunction with Regional Wellness to coordinate and identify planning and development opportunities that strengthen the volunteer sector for Boards, non-profits and charities.
Attends all Town Staff and Community Services Department meetings; attend Town Council meetings when directed and all agency meetings related to the position.
Using a variety of methods, collects, compiles and disseminates information on the community that is useful to the public and local organizations for resource and referral purposes.

Emergency Social

Updates contact information in the Town of Slave Lake Emergency Social Services Plan semi-annually, and reviews the procedures annually.
Acts as Reception Center Manager in the event of an emergency.

Professional Development:

Attends conferences or training opportunities that are relevant to the position within approved budgetary guidelines.

Health and Safety:

Must adhere to all safety standards under the Occupational Health and Safety Legislation, Town Policies and Procedures and WHMIS Guidelines.  For specific responsibilities of this position, refer to the Town’s Health and Safety Policy, Section 2 – Responsibilities for CAO, Directors, Supervisors and Workers.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge:

Legislation relating to or relevant to Family and Community Support Services Act and Conditional Agreement Guidelines such as the Employment Standards, Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy, Societies Act, Individual Rights Protection.
Knowledge of preparing grants and funding proposals.
Knowledge of Social Services and Social Theory.
Knowledge of human growth and development.
Knowledge of social planning and community development.
Computer literate including but not limited to Microsoft Outlook, MS Word, Excel and Publisher.

Skills and Abilities:

Superior Communication Skills both written and oral.
Ability to work in a team environment.
Research and report writing skills.
Strong organizational and time management skills.
Experience working with not-for-profit organizations and boards.
Maintain confidentiality and consideration when dealing with staff and volunteers.
