SPCA St.John’s is seeking an Executive Director, providing executive leadership, oversight and guidance for the largest animal shelter and rescue organization in the province. The role would be to manage lead staff in areas of shelter and fundraising management and to ensure successful operations of volunteer, retail, outreach and education programs. Reporting directly to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director will lead the development and implementation of strategic plans and the approval of annual budgets and workplans; and have a direct impact on the lives of 1,000’s of animals each year.

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the main functions of the Executive Director will include:

Providing executive level leadership for staff and volunteers, including direct supervision for the shelter and fundraising lead staff
Implementation and oversight of strategic plan and annual workplans
Developing and administrating an  annual budget, and financial  administration
Establishing effective relationships with other animal welfare, funding and other agencies, and individuals,  to further the goals of the SPCA
Developing and documenting appropriate policies and procedures for all core functions
Overseeing and coordinating the efforts to build a strong volunteer base, as well as  community awareness and education programs
Providing key Human Resource functions,  including required recruitment, performance management, training and orientation

The Executive Director should have post-secondary education in business administration and a minimum of five years experience in a management  role. Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered. Knowledge of and experience in animal welfare is an asset, but not mandatory. The successful candidate must hold a valid driver’s license; and will be required to provide a clear driver’s abstract and supply a Certificate of Conduct as condition of employment.
