Habitat for Humanity Newfoundland and Labrador (HFHNL), is seeking an Executive Director to lead growth as the organization partners with communities and families throughout Newfoundland and Labrador. This position will be based out of St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador and is a full-time permanent-based opportunity.
Reporting to the Board of Directors (BOD), the results-driven candidate will lead and manage HFHNL as it expands to make affordable home ownership a reality for families throughout the province. The successful candidate will oversee day-to-day operations, execute and develop strategic and operational plans, build relationships to support continued growth, and will be responsible and accountable for managing the budgetary, financial, human resources and administrative functions of the organization. For more than 20 years, Habitat for Humanity Newfoundland and Labrador, an affiliate for Habitat for Humanity Canada, has operated as an independent registered charity dedicated to affordable home ownership. HFHNL is governed by a volunteer BOD and is overseen and managed by the Executive Director. HFHNL offers a life-changing ‘hand-up’ to qualified working families who are not eligible for a conventional mortgage. Responsibilities
Planning and Accountability: Collaboratively execute the vision of the BOD by implementing, reviewing and revising sound Strategic Plan and Operational plans.
Human Resources: Maintain direct and indirect supervision for all HFHNL staff including all performance reviews accompanied with staff training and professional development as applicable. Oversee operations at the ReStore retail outlet.
Financial Management: Work with BOD/Treasurer to develop, implement, and monitor Budgets. Produce monthly financial reports and updates of HFHNL operations and Chapters.
Leadership: Participate in and support the HFHNL Board strategic planning process.
Relationship Management: Participate in and support the development and nurturing of key HFHNL relationships, across operational areas, but primarily within the fund development and operations areas.
Program and Growth: Work with communities, organizations, municipalities, and developers to establish Chapters throughout the province. Direct and support Family Selection and Family Partnering Committees.
Qualifications
Relevant academic and progressive professional experience –post-secondary degree/diploma or equivalent experience in running an organization similar in size and/or nature to that of HFHNL – candidates must demonstrate a proven track record of success
Operational mind – ability to translate the big picture into SMART detailed action plans required for successful execution
Financial management – experience managing the budgeting requirements of a growing organization. Ability to read and interpret financial statements
Human resources – experience managing people and teams in a changing environment, leading the development of teams and individuals as well their collective and individual performance evaluations. Knowledge of staff benefits and employment related law
Industry Knowledge – knowledge and/or background in residential real estate and/or construction industry would be considered a strong asset. Knowledge of government policies, regulatory issues, and departments – specifically in the areas of housing, grants, loans, and land acquisition would be considered a strong asset
Creative problem solver – creative to find solutions, skilled to communicate the path to others
Energetic – out-going, social, and driven to develop and succeed. Key ability to inspire a diverse team of staff and volunteers
Dedicated – desire to help others, commitment to HFHNL values
Communication – written, oral, outreach, traditional media, social media – all skills are equally important
Team player and leader – committed to team success as much as individual success, willing to support others and ask for help in return, leads by example and through teaching. Ability to lead a culture of safety
