Greening Niagara (GN) is in search of an Executive Director. GN is Niagara’s largest grass-roots environmental Non-Profit organization, providing Eco education and community projects on issues relating to climate to improve resilience in Niagara. Greening Niagara programs facilitate action-based education and provide the tools to make lifestyle changes to create a large and lasting impact on our community and the environment.
GN provides programs and tools to help individuals reduce carbon emissions and contribute to healthier, economically stronger communities. GN collaborates with municipalities, businesses, school boards, faith-based organizations, volunteers, and other community-based non-profits and charities to assist observable change through local initiatives.
The Executive Director is responsible for leading all aspects of GN’s daily operations and representing GN publicly. He/She works with and is accountable to the Board of Directors through the Chair, and carries out the strategic plan set out by the Board and membership. The Executive Director is also responsible for managing staff and volunteers.
The desired individual must be a visionary, who is inspired to lead positive change regarding the environment, specifically in Niagara Region. The Executive Director is to build on GN’s successful 10-year history in Niagara and should strive to ensure that GN maintains a leadership position in the community and continues to grow as an organization. The Executive Director will work with stakeholders and make new connections to enhance the visibility of GN and strengthen GN’s network. The selected candidate must learn quickly and be a self-starter. He/She must also have proven leadership abilities and be able to manage multiple projects.
Key Responsibilities
Governance
Works with Board Chair to set agenda for monthly Board meetings & Annual General Meeting
Requests Board input & approval on items as defined in the organization’s governance structure
Supports all Board subcommittees
Fundraising and Community Relations
Assists with development of and carrying out implementation of GN’s strategic plan
Assists with development and implementation of the fundraising plan to maintain GN’s financial viability
Develops and maintains relationships with members, funders, sponsors and potential partners
Oversees all funded projects, ensuring that all objectives are met and reporting requirements are fulfilled
Administration
Manages and engages paid staff and volunteers, including hiring, training, and evaluation; recommending staffing and volunteer plan to the Board
Participates and sets direction in ongoing meetings for each of GN’s functional areas
Supports audit and annual budget
Completes ad hoc check-ins with volunteers and provides recruitment support
Program/Member Services
Ensures a vibrant online and public presence for GN, in line with the strategic plan
Delivers an array of member services in line with the strategic plan
Qualifications
Minimum 2 years managerial & leadership experience in the non-profit sector, with various projects and numerous volunteers
Excellent interpersonal skills, networking and maintaining relationships with members and stakeholders
Extensive experience and/or knowledge of fundraising
Ability to juggle competing priorities and multitask effectively
A solid understanding of the grant writing & reporting process
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Broad interest in the environment
Access to a reliable vehicle and ability to travel through Niagara Region, as required
Strong computer skills and proficiency with MS Office Suite
A solid understanding of marketing would be an asset
