The Scotiabank Blue Nose Marathon is a major social and participatory sporting event that brings together family and friends; contributes to the health and wellness of Nova Scotians; unites the community by building social connectivity; builds skills and capacity in our volunteers; and helps to make Halifax a great place to live and visit. In just 12 years, it has become the largest participant sporting event in Atlantic Canada with 13,000 individuals partaking.
We are now seeking an Executive Director who will provide the necessary leadership and direction to manage the continued growth and impact of Blue Nose in the coming years.
As Executive Director, you will report to a Board of Directors and have overall responsibility for all aspects of the event including operations, logistics, finance, marketing, promotions, public relations, human resources, volunteers, environmental stewardship and sponsorships. You will work closely with a volunteer organizing committee and oversee a small staff to ensure an extraordinary experience is received by all participants including registrants, sponsors, volunteers, spectators, suppliers, government officials and fundraisers.
As the ideal candidate, you will possess four qualities. First, you must understand the Blue Nose brand and buy-in to the mission, purpose and goals of the event. Second, you are a runner, walker, athlete or highly-engaged volunteer who has participated in large scale sporting events. Third, you have a solid understanding of event management and fourth, you understand the idiosyncrasies of a volunteer-run, not-for-profit “business.” Additionally, you are an excellent communicator and consensus builder and can motivate people (staff and volunteers) to meet challenging objectives.
This is a big mission – and that’s why we are looking for an exceptional individual as Executive Director. If you have interest in this exciting opportunity, please forward a thoughtful letter explaining why you are qualified for this role and, in particular, how you could contribute to the growth and development of Blue Nose Marathon. Please also attach a resume. Submissions can be emailed to Gerald Walsh Associates Inc. at apply@geraldwalsh.com, quoting project number 1664-CB in the subject line. Interviews for this position will commence in early September.
