The Canadian Association of Physicians for the Environment (CAPE) is a national organization of physicians, allied health care practitioners, and citizens committed to a sustainable environment. CAPE relies on scientific evidence to address issues of environmental degradation. It educates the public and advocates for stronger environmental policy. It was instrumental in the passage of provincial lawn-pesticide bans and in Ontario’s decision to become the first jurisdiction in North America to rid itself of coal-fired power. CAPE continues to have leadership roles in banning pesticides and closing coal-fired power plants and speaks out on many different environmental issues. To learn more, visit http://www.cape.ca.

CAPE has a 36-hour per week position for an Executive Director interested in making the world a better place — and being part of a small team of professionals in a respected organization. You are an environmental advocate and leader, a self-starter, fast learner, and fun to work with. You want to work for CAPE because you are excited by its vision and want to do what it takes to enhance the organization’s success.

Responsibilities

You will lead all aspects of CAPE’s day-to-day operations including:

Environmental advocacy campaigns
Government relations
Educational outreach
Supervision of fundraising programs (individual donors and foundations)
Budgeting and supervision of financial systems
Media work
Board engagement
Supervision of staff

Qualifications

Minimum 5 years’ senior managerial experience in the non-profit sector
Extensive experience and/or knowledge of fundraising
Extensive experience running advocacy campaigns and partnerships
Excellent written and oral communications skills, including public speaking
Strong media and government relations skills
Strong interest in environmental advocacy
Strong non-profit-related financial and project management skills
Excellent interpersonal skills
Working knowledge of public health is an asset

This is a permanent, 36-hour per week position. The successful applicant will work at CAPE’s downtown Toronto office. Salary is $60K annually plus benefits.
