The Elks of Canada is a national non-profit organization composed of 12,000 members in approximately 300 lodges across Canada. Federally incorporated in 1912, the Elks of Canada facilitates volunteer initiatives of Canadian men and women in the communities in which they serve. The Elks proudly administer a registered national charity, evolved in 1956, called the Elks and Royal Purple Fund for Children and are proud of their strong and lengthy history of bettering communities and helping children across Canada. The organization requires a leader who has the vision, focus and determination to lead the Elks of Canada through a continuing period of change and development. With the support of the National Executive and the strategic plan in place, the Executive Director will have a unique opportunity to make a real difference within this community based organization.
Based in Regina, the Executive Director leads, implements and evaluates all administrative matters of the Elks of Canada’s national office and of the national charity, the Elks and Royal Purple Fund for Children. Reporting directly to the National Executive, the incumbent acts as a resource person and provides leadership and recommendations on all matters directed by the National Executive. Duties include working across Canada with boards and committees to lead change and to promote the organization and its associated charitable activities.
The Elks of Canada’s new Executive Director will have a minimum of 5 years of leadership experience with a non-profit organization, including dealing with volunteer members and boards. The position requires an undergraduate degree or equivalent years of work experience. Professional standing with an organization such as the Canadian Society of Association Executives would be an asset. Preference will be given to candidates with experience managing a registered charity and extensive work in the non-profit area. The incumbent will demonstrate strong administrative, leadership, interpersonal, and negotiation skills, as well as solid financial acumen, including experience creating and managing non-profit budgets.
