We are currently seeking high caliber Electrical and Instrumentation Maintenance Supervisors, to work on a contract basis. Based in the Fort McMurray, Alberta area, you will be working for one of the world’s leading engineering, procurement and construction companies.
Supervisory Activities
Directs and supervisors the Infrared Thermographer to achieve the goals of the Predictive Maintenance Program.
Assures the infrared surveys are conducted on a timely basis.
Assures the infrared survey reports are prepared and distributed as faults are found during the infrared survey process.
Assures the infrared thermography program is kept up-to-date and that equipment is added and removed from the program as changes take place in the process of remediation.
Assures that cost benefit reports are kept up-to-date to maintain ongoing management support of the infrared thermography program.
Assures the Infrared Thermographer keeps up-to-date on technological improvements in Predictive Maintenance techniques, and approves training requests as justified for the infrared thermography program.
Assures the Infrared Thermographer expands the use of infrared thermography techniques as the needs of the service dictates. This would include the use of infrared thermography in non-maintenance applications.
Assures the infrared thermography program is kept up-to-date.
Operating Service
Aids in the development of the Electrical and Instrument PM Programs through the accumulation of electrical and instrument data. Recommends the interval and job task content for Electrical and Instrument PM Work.
Initiates Work Orders for electrical facilities as an aid to the Utilities Department and facility owners as may be necessary.
Acts as a source of information for electrical and instrument concerns regarding operation and maintenance issues.
Reviews electrical/instrument maintenance and repair costs and flags unusual cost situations.
Provides a focal point to Engineering for electrical and instrument maintenance problems.
Makes personnel inspections of electrical and instrument jobs throughout the FEMP
Directs electrical load balance studies and major fault studies. Prepares reports and recommendations from these studies.
Prepares a monthly report on electrical power usage.
Works with the infrared thermographer during the survey of high voltage electrical distribution systems.
Oversees the Comparison Surge Testing Program and establishes the testing intervals for major rotating electrical equipment. Works with the PM Engineer to get this program scheduled in the CMMS PM Program.
Assures the reliability of control instruments by conducting periodic tests of the instruments compared with laboratory analysis.
Maintains an instrument classification system suitable to the needs of Maintenance, Stores, Operations, Accounting, CMMS, and Engineering.
Reviews Engineering drawings, specifications, and Bills of Material for projected installation and modification for process analyzers and instruments.
Staff Advice
Aids and advises Stores regarding the content and levels of electrical and instrument materials to keep on hand. Observes that non-standard and obsolete items are deleted from the active inventory.
Recommends to Engineering and/or facility owners major modifications and alternations to the electrical and instrument control systems to achieve more reliability and availability of the systems.
Prepares the expense budget for Maintenance concerning the electrical distribution systems and substations.
Aids the Maintenance Planner/Scheduler is assessment of major electrical and instrument jobs.
Acts to correlate specific electrical and instrument technical and engineering information to enhance present equipment knowledge, spare parts standardization, and manufacturer’s recommendations. Serves as a source of this information.
Advises the Maintenance Supervisors regarding the technical background for electrical and instrument job requirements.
Alerts the Maintenance Engineering Supervisor of circumstance where operating methods are promoting unusual maintenance costs.
Instructs Electricians on the proper procedures for taking and interrupting electrical comparison surge tests. Makes sure the Electrical understand the proper safety procedures to take during the comparison surge test.
Control Activities
Provides temperature limits for infrared inspections of electrical distribution systems and switch gear including motor control centers.
Maintains complete and up-to-date information regarding electrical and instrument equipment, Work Orders, and safety requirement as applicable to major electrical and instrument work.
Reviews for approval and possible authorization Work Orders concerning major electrical work. Keeps abreast of the backlog trends concerning electrical work.
Personally inspects major items of rotating electrical equipment vital to operations of the FEMP. Recommends corrective repairs as may be necessary.
Personally inspects major process and control system loops and recommends corrective repairs as may be necessary.
Reviews the compliance with the FEMP lubrication program for rotating electrical equipment. Works with the PM Engineer concerning the status of this program.
Reviews periodic equipment maintenance cost reports for electrical and instrument items, and makes recommendations to control and reduce the cost to maintain electrical facilities and major instrument loops.
Submits to the Maintenance Engineering Supervisor items for inclusion in the Maintenance Capital Budget for labor saving devices to reduce electrical and instrument costs and increase reliability.
Reviews electrical comparison surge test results. If abnormal conditions exist the E&I Engineer recommends the action to be taken.
Establishes an Equipment Index for each electrical and instrument loop that has been numbered in CMMS. This index contains manufacturer’s specifications, maintenance data, and engineering reference information.
Submits to the Maintenance Engineering Supervisor a yearend report dealing with the Electrical and Instrument Engineering.
The report will detail specific goals for improving the electrical and instrument PM Program, reduce costs, and expansion of the Infrared Thermography Program, Comparison Surge Testing Program, and the Electrical and Instrument PM Programs as economically justified.
Authority
The Electrical/Instrument Engineer is authorized to initiate Work Orders for electrical and instrument work through the appropriate Maintenance Coordinator.
Reviews and approves all Work Orders involving major electrical and instrument work.
The Electrical/Instrument Engineer is authorized to requisitions materials, forms, software, and consumables required to operate the Electrical/Instrument Engineering function.
The Electrical/Instrument Engineer is authorized to stop any activity or job that is creating a dangerous situation for personnel, equipment, or the environment.
Accountability
The Electrical/Instrument Engineer is accountable for:
That the electrical and instrument information is maintained in such a way to promote continuity of knowledge for everyone who needs the information.
The integrity of the Electrical Comparison Surge Testing Program and the benefits derived from that program.
That his efforts are coordinated with those of the other Maintenance Engineers, the appropriate Maintenance Supervisor, Planner/Scheduler, and with Utilities Services.
That new installation and modification designs are carefully reviewed to aid maintenance practices and to control overall maintenance costs.
That the required load reports and studies are submitted on time.
That unexpected electrical failures are reduced and controlled.
That instrument failures are reduced and sufficient coverage is provided to protect personnel, equipment, and the environment.
