District Manager (DM) Role Vancouver Farmers Markets is seeking one-year maternity leave coverage for our West Side District Manager position with training starting May 2015. The West Side District Manager is a fulltime, year-round, salary position. The DM is on-site manager for the Kitsilano Market (Sundays) and will oversee the operations of the Kerrisdale Market (Saturdays). Additionally, the District Manager plans and manages the operations of the Hastings Park Farmers Market (Sundays), which operates from November – April.
The role of the District Manager is to ensure their assigned markets have the resources and support needed to operate successfully. This includes the following tasks:
Create applications, perform scheduling tasks and prepare for startup of market season
Train and supervise market managers within their district
Manage on-site crew, vendors, setup, operation and take down of assigned markets
Lead community outreach efforts at markets within your district
Strategize promotions and in-market events to enhance market experience
Contribute to market newsletter, vendor bulletin and participate in strategic plan implementation
Perform basic equipment maintenance, management of resources and inventory
Communicate with current vendor roster & on-going recruitment of new vendors as needed
Ensure markets are meeting VFM standards for safety, aesthetic appeal and permitted use
Enforcement of VFM policies and guidelines
Data entry and reporting on performance against prescribed fiscal and operational goals
Skills/Attributes Required
Ability to manage people and budgets
Ability to forecast and set goals
Ability to organize and plan for on site event logistics
Ability to hire, train and delegate to staff
Ability to communicate clearly and diplomatically with a variety of stakeholders
Ability to enforce market policies and contribute to changes to policies via annual review
Knowledge of event and food safety, either through the completion of Market Safe or Food Safe or both.
Physically able to withstand long periods of standing, lifting 40lbs unaided and working in all types of weather
Good driving record and experience driving larger vehicles
Education and Experience
Completion of High School, with a preference for completion of a college or university program ideally with courses in any of the following: event planning, administration, management, marketing, communications, human resources or community engagement
Experience managing teams of 5-10 people in a service/retail/operations setting
Experience coordinating events including planning logistics, delegating tasks and communicating with stakeholders
Prior farmers market management experience is strongly recommended
Familiarity with AccountEdge, Excel, Word, Adobe Creative Suite
