The City of Cranbrook is located in the southeast corner of British Columbia amongst the majestic Rockies and Purcell mountains, in close proximity to Alberta and the Canada/USA border. With a population of approximately 20,000, Cranbrook is the largest community in the East Kootenay with a trading base of approximately 70,000. This is a senior leader role reporting directly to the Chief Administrative Officer, and is member of the City Senior Leadership Team. The Director is required to transform City planning, development and engineering services from a traditional hierarchical culture to a growth driven, customer service focused one.
A multi-disciplinary background in development planning and engineering is highly desirable.
Direct reports include Urban Planners; Building Inspection Staff; Economic Development and Corporate Communications Officer. The Director will be expected to lead across the enterprise – leading cross-functional teams- to achieve outcome based results, and drive:
Collaboration with developers, community groups, city departments, government agencies
Streamlining of development approval processes to enhance customer service
Employee commitment to executing growth strategies and plans
We are seeking a highly-driven, holistic, and strategic thinker that can accelerate the City’s culture change to a learning and customer focused organization, and expanding individual team member capacities by developing their ability to think critically and identify root causes.
Candidate requirements include a combination of education and practical leadership experience that clearly showcases capability to advance positive organizational change.
Preferred candidates will have a relevant university degree or college diploma and extensive experience in the development industry.
