Director of Protective Services – City of Corner Brook – Corner Brook

The City of Corner Brook is currently accepting applications for the position of Director of Protective Services. This position will report directly to the City Manager of the City of Corner Brook and will be responsible for the planning, direction and management of the protection and prevention services that the City of Corner Brook provides to the residents and business community, including the Fire Department, Municipal Enforcement, Animal Control, Public Service Answering Program (PSAP) and Emergency Measures Management.

Reporting to the City Manager, the Director of Protective Services will be responsible to ensure the overall management and administration of the Department of Protective Services is effective and efficient. This will be achieved through providing leadership, direction, and supervision to the department senior staff ensuring that all policies and directives from Council are followed and implemented. The Director of Protective Services will be responsible to maintain clear guidelines and constant communication with all protective service departments and resolve any issues promptly. This position is responsible for the overall budget control of the department and the performance management, recruitment, selection and promotion of departmental staff. Qualifications: The successful candidate must have an undergraduate degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in Business Administration, Municipal Administration, or Project Management, or a field related to fire and/or protective services. Candidates must have a minimum of seven (7) years of progressively advancing management experience in the area of protective services, preferably in a municipal or union environment. Emergency management practices, planning and ideally experience in overseeing emergency management operations is considered an asset.
