North Battleford is a growing, well-connected city with a population of approximately 17,000, is located on the Trans Canada Yellowhead Highway and serves as a service centre to Northwest Saskatchewan.  The City offers affordable housing, competitive wages, leisure activities, historical/cultural attractions and educational & health services.

The City is seeking a qualified individual for the position of Director of Planning and Development.  This a senior level administrative position responsible for a newly reconfigured Department to include Planning, Engineering, Building Inspections and Business Development functions.  There are 9 staff positions within the Department.  The incumbent is directly responsible to the City Manager and confers with him on a close and regular basis.

As a member of the City’s management team, the Director works collaboratively across disciplines to plan for the future, respond to opportunities and tackle challenging issues.  The position demands significant interaction with elected officials, fellow department heads, interested stakeholders and the community at large.

At a minimum the successful candidate will possess a Bachelor’s Degree in urban planning, engineering, business administration, public administration or other related discipline with at least seven years of increasingly responsible and diverse provincial or local government experience.   This person may possess a Master’s Degree in a related field and a combination of public and private sector experience is strongly desired. The candidate must have supervisory experience.

Candidates must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills; strong public relations skills; work in a strong team environment; have proficient computer knowledge/skills.  The successful candidate will be a highly motivated individual who can demonstrate that they can use discernment & organizational/leadership skills to effectively carry out the responsibilities of this position.  They will demonstrate the ability to understand and manage high-profile, sensitive or controversial political situations.  They will also exercise sound and independent judgement within general policy guidelines.
