The Municipality of Cape Dorset is currently seeking a full-time permanent Director of Municipal Works.  Cape Dorset is a northern community of approximately 1,500 people located at the southern tip of Baffin Island in Nunavut.

Reporting to the Senior Administrative Officer the Director of Municipal Works will be responsible for the administration of the day to day duties associated with running the Municipal Works department. The position requires the ability to interact with various departments of the Nunavut and Municipal Governments, to prepare clear and concise reports and proposals and to be a team player. The director is responsible for the administration, management and maintenance of municipal council priorities carried out under the terms and conditions of the Community Transfer Agreement. The director must ensure the required records are kept to facilitate reporting and evaluation for the Department of Municipal Works. Included in the Municipal Works division, are the operations of the airport facility under a separate contract.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum 5+ years managerial experience
Strong Computer Skills
Experience in general administration and planning (Municipal Planning an asset)
Strong Mechanical Background (Journeyman certification as Heavy Equipment Mechanic and Asset)
Experience budgeting a completing financial reports required
Strong knowledge of WSCC components required.

OTHER SKILLS:

Ability to work without supervision, self-motivated and able to work in a cross-cultural environtment
Ability to supervise, motivate and evaluate staff
A strong background in vehicle maintenance (mechanics)
Ability to manage contracts, projects and maintenance requests. Ensure they are carried out in a timely, professional manner.
Strong administration skills, ensuring all reports and records are completed accurately and on a timely basis
Strong oral and written communication skills
Ability to speak and write Inuktitut would be an asset, but is not required
Must possess a valid driver’s license.
