Duties

Reporting to the Assistant Director of Education – Human Resources, the successful candidate will be responsible for providing expert advisory and consultative services to the District’s Senior Executive and Management teams in the areas of labour relations and human resources, with particular emphasis in the areas of collective agreement negotiation and administration, employee/labour relations, human resource planning, compensation and benefits, recruitment and classifications.  This position plays a key role in strategic planning and policy development while addressing issues of interpretation and consistency of services.

The incumbent will provide leadership to a team of human resource professionals in the development and delivery of programs and services in the areas of labour relations and human resources. This position acts as the District’s representative, for the Eastern Region, in the collective bargaining process for the support staff and student assistant collective agreements, grievance and arbitration processes.

Qualifications

The successful candidate must have experience in providing solid leadership to a diverse group of employees in a large multi-unionized work environment.  He/she must possess strong communication, analytical, organizational, conflict and time management skills. He/she must be self-motivated, able to understand various functional areas, and have the ability to exercise good judgement and foster collaborative/proactive working relationships with a variety of stakeholders. The successful candidate will have extensive knowledge in the use of MS Excel, HRIS, and other software programs.  Candidates should possess a thorough knowledge of human resources practices; collective agreement interpretation and have experience in the collective bargaining process.

These qualifications would normally be acquired through the completion of an undergraduate degree in business with a concentration in human resources or labour relations combined with progressively responsible experience in a complex unionized environment. Previous experience in the public sector, a CHRP designation, and/or Master’s degree would we considered assets.

Use of a private vehicle for District business is a requirement of this position.
