Revelstoke Mountain Resort, with the most vertical (5620’) in North America, was just awarded the ‘Best Canadian Ski Resort’ distinction at the World Ski Awards held in Kitzbuhel, Austria.

The City is looking to attract a progressive and accomplished community economic development professional to join our team as Director. Responsible for overseeing the operating functions of the Community Economic Development Department we are seeking candidates who can demonstrate innovative and effective community and economic development leadership to ensure ongoing and improved community sustainability for the City and Electoral Area B of the Columbia Shuswap Regional District (CSRD). Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer, the Director of Community Economic Development is a key player in building community capacity, vitality, empowerment, self-reliance and sustainability. The Director is responsible for effective liaison and partner relationships with a broad range of community organizations and agencies including Community Futures Revelstoke, the Chamber of Commerce, Tourism
Revelstoke, Revelstoke Accommodation Association, the CSRD’s Economic Development Commission (EDC), Columbia Basin Trust and others.

In addition to the community development role, the Director will work with the City and its Council, and the EDC to define strategic direction and develop an economic development strategy and associated business plan and budget. Key aspects of this work include: strategic planning; economic analysis and planning; business attraction, retention and expansion; investment attraction; marketing and promotion; identification of regional and local business opportunities; consultation and advisement to businesses, organizations and investors; and associated media relations.

This is a diverse, multi-faceted portfolio and therefore requires an individual with a broad-based skill set including a degree in community development, business, commerce, economics or a related discipline. The successful candidate will have a minimum of five to ten years of progressively responsible community economic development leadership and be a member in good standing with the BC Economic Development Association or Economic Development Association of Canada and ideally have been granted the certified economic developer designation (Ec.D.).

We are looking for a motivated team player that understands the value in providing excellent customer service to the community and strategic advice to the City. Our ideal candidate would be a strategic thinker, able to professionally communicate well-considered, accurate and innovative advice to City Council, the EDC and staff in support of community economic development. government decision-making and service delivery.
