Queen Victoria herself gave the city of New Westminster its name. When British Columbia was just a dream in the hearts of pioneers and gold miners, this was its capital city — the cosmopolitan centre of the young province.
Today, the City of New Westminster is in the midst of a very real transformation. At the very epicenter of the Lower Mainland, the City is positioned perfectly as a place to live and do business. It is renowned throughout the region for the quality, creativity and innovation of its services to residents and businesses, its intelligent community status, its award winning open spaces, its recent waterfront transformation, and its emerging cultural and heritage attractions. The City of New Westminster also possesses a strong, economic development-friendly environment and is named among the top three cities in which to start a small business in Metro Vancouver and is a growing technology center. For all these reasons and more, New Westminster has never felt more relevant and exciting and City staff will continue to play a key role in solidifying its place as a top municipality in Metro Vancouver.
Because the success of the City rests on the quality and dedication of the people who deliver services and programs, human resources leadership is the key to that success. As a result of a retirement, the City is now looking for a new Director of Human Resources to provide innovative human resources leadership across the organization and help further elevate the organization as a regional leader in providing municipal services and management.
As a consummate human resources leader, you will report to the Chief Administrative Officer and hold a key role at the senior management level and across all staff, ensuring that people are well supported and doing optimal work on behalf of the citizens of the City of New Westminster. There is a strong and stable foundation of people leadership on which to further develop the HR function – to bring about high quality standards in programs, policies, procedures, service and counsel that will maintain the function’s position as an invaluable resource for senior staff and other managers as they seek to enhance their own areas of the organization through their people.
This is a high impact, strategic as well as a fairly hands-on role for a credible HR leader, and one who wants to take the HR function to the “next level” in an organization dedicated to excellent public service, and to making a difference in the thriving city that is New Westminster.
