Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer, the Director of Community Services is responsible for promoting, enhancing and providing for the health, safety and social well-being of individuals, families and the community overall. The Community Services Director is responsible for providing overall leadership and management for the Community Services Department. This includes:
Directing and managing the work of the department through Family and Community Support Services, Agricultural Services, Recreation, Cemeteries, Libraries, Historical and Cultural Facilities, and Social Transportation; and
Liaising with the respective boards; identify, facilitate and oversee community development opportunities and activities; developing customer focused strategies and operational plans; advising Boards and Council on all matters pertinent to agriculture, recreation, arts/culture, and preventive social services.
The Director oversees 14 full time and 24 seasonal staff including four direct reports – the Parks and Recreation Supervisor, the Heritage Coordinator, the Agricultural Services Supervisor and the FCSS Supervisor. The Department is housed in two locations – Wildwood and Edson, so travel between the two offices is required.
The Director oversees and is accountable for a $6.4 million budget.
The east boundary of Yellowhead County is located approximately 94 kms west of Edmonton. Yellowhead County is a highly diverse, rural municipality presently governed by a 9-member Council of elected residents.
