Position Summary
The Development Manager is a key member of our fundraising team, responsible for overseeing and coordinating various aspects of fundraising operations, grants management, CRM and database coordination, and project management. This role requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, technological proficiency, and the ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders. Reporting to the Development Director in a flexible hybrid working environment, the Development Manager is responsible for supervision of 2 FTE employees, contractor and vendor management, operating and streamlining the fundraising tech-stack, cultivating and stewarding a robust portfolio of individual donors, and maintaining strong relationships with funding organizations. Personal integrity, sound judgment, a donor service orientation, a commitment to professional ethics, and a love of team collaboration are essential.
Responsibilities
Fundraising Operations Management (35%):
Support in the development and implementation of fundraising strategies to meet annual philanthropic revenue targets.
Manage fundraising campaigns, including direct mail, online fundraising, events, and major donor solicitation.
Collaborate with the operations team to ensure accurate tracking and reporting of fundraising revenue.
Identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit, and steward mid-level donors making gifts in the $750 to $1,500 range (current portfolio of 150), as well as emergent donor segments such as donors making workplace matching gifts and gifts of stock.
Grants Management (30%):
Manage grant proposals, applications, and reports through the grant application process, ensuring compliance with grant guidelines and deadlines.
Qualify grant prospects that align with RAVEN’s mission and values.
Provide the final edit on all outgoing materials, in collaboration with the Grant Writer and the Grants & Campaigns Coordinator.
Coordinate with other staff to gather necessary information and data for grant applications and reporting.
Maintain a comprehensive grants dashboard using team project management software (Asana) to track deadlines, progress, and reporting requirements.
Establish and nurture relationships with foundation representatives and program officers.
CRM & Database Coordination (20%):
Oversee donor database management, ensuring accurate and up-to-date records of donor interactions and contributions.
Regularly review and optimize Salesforce workflows, reports, and dashboards to enhance fundraising effectiveness.
Conduct thorough data analysis by generating comprehensive reports to extract actionable insights and provide strategic recommendations for enhancing fundraising efforts.
Project Management (15%):
Lead and manage cross-functional fundraising projects, ensuring timely and successful completion.
Develop project plans, set goals and objectives, and monitor progress against timelines and deliverables.
Coordinate with internal teams, external consultants, and vendors to execute fundraising initiatives.
Identify and mitigate risks, resolve issues, and make recommendations to improve project outcomes.
Qualifications
Required
Demonstrated sincere interest and current knowledge of Indigenous rights and issues, including the Truth and Reconciliation Calls to Action and the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., nonprofit management, business administration, social science).
Proven experience in fundraising operations, grants management, CRM administration, and project management.
Demonstrated ability to prospect, cultivate, and manage new donor relationships.
Strong knowledge of fundraising principles, techniques, and best practices.
Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy.
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
Desirable
Affiliation with a professional fundraising association.
Networked within environmental, social justice, and/or Indigenous rights movements.

This job description is a general outline and may be subject to change based on specific needs and priorities. This is a full-time position (35 hours per week) based in Victoria, BC. Flexible working arrangements may be considered. In addition to salary, RAVEN offers generous benefits, including 2 weeks paid vacation to start, 18 days of sick time annually, medical and dental insurance, and a supportive working environment.
Salary Range: $73,000 to $80,000
