The Deputy Fire Chief is the principal assistant and alternate to the Fire Chief.  The Deputy assists with organizing and directing all firefighting, rescue and other emergency services for the City of Fort St. John and is responsible for planning and directing departmental operations, overseeing the Training Division, Fire Prevention Division and the 911 Fire Dispatch Center.  In the absence of the Fire Chief, the Deputy assumes command of the Fire Department which includes 23 full time staff as well as 8 auxiliary paid on call firefighters.

Qualified applicants will have extensive experience of a progressively responsible nature in firefighting and 5 years of service as a Fire Captain or higher.  Superior communication and interpersonal skills, ability to effectively supervise personnel and a thorough knowledge of all relevant federal and provincial codes and regulations are essential.  Applicants must possess a valid BC Class 3 drivers licence with airbrake endorsement.  For a complete copy of the position description, please refer to the City’s website at www.fortstjohn.ca
