Reporting to the Director of Fire Services (Fire Chief), the Deputy Director of Fire Services (Deputy Chief) will provide support with the administration, communications, public relations, fire inspections, strategic direction, leadership and management in all aspects of fire and emergency services.
The potential candidate will possess:
Relevant post-secondary education augmented by a minimum of five years of experience as a Fire Officer in a leadership role, with a minimum of 10 years’ firefighting experience in local government fire services;
Substantial experience in the principles and practices of fire and emergency services including incident command, strategies and tactics to ensure life safety of all first responders and the public;
Significant training or proven experience in Fire Inspection, Investigation, Prevention and Emergency Management.
Working knowledge of standard operating guidelines, procedures and regulatory requirements as they pertain to fire and emergency services;
The ability to write clear and concise reports, policies, and procedures that relate to Fire Department operations and the District’s emergency program;
The ability to effectively lead and facilitate Fire Department meetings and training;
Achieve creative and balanced solutions with volunteer members, public, community groups, and District Administration; and
The ability to provide effective team leadership and to undertake all facets of supervising staff.
