Data Management Specialist – 211 Nova Scotia – Dartmouth

When someone needs help with a problem that involves community or social services, it isn’t always clear who to contact. Now the answer is as close as a telephone or computer because Nova Scotians can call 211 or visit www.ns.211.ca to find out. Our friendly navigators are on duty, helping people find and access the community based information and services they need, anywhere in the province. We’re looking for a very special someone to join our not-for-profit association and help us provide quality 211 service.

The Opportunity
211 Nova Scotia is seeking a Data Management Specialist to assist in the collection, organizing and maintenance of the information in the 211 database that is used by Information and Referral Specialists, and the general public via the public facing website.

As the ideal candidate, you have demonstrated well-honed analytical skills, the ability to take complex information and “break it down” conceptually, and reorganize it in a way that clearly reflects its’ true value. You are proud of your communications skills, the ability to articulate values and tactfully “ask the right questions” to obtain needed information and concisely reflect that information in the written word. You are known as a “stickler” for detail, with strong English language skills, especially when it comes to grammar, spelling and punctuation.

Requirements

Ensures that all data related to 211 services is managed effectively and in accordance with Alliance of Information and Referral Systems (AIRS) standards
Assists in the development and revisions of internal 211 database information
Receives new data, troubleshoots and resolves all manner of data quality issues with the call center operations manager, information and referral specialists, 211 end users, and service providers
Creates and distributes reports either ad hoc or system generated and responds to requests for information in a timely manner
Participates in system testing and trouble shooting, working with vendors to rectify identify issues
Required to act as backup to the Information and Referral Specialists during periods of high call volumes. Training will be provided.
Computer proficiency in MS Word and Excel (including Crystal Reports) combined with strong keyboarding skills
Basic knowledge of HTML coding will be a strong asset

As the ideal candidate, you have post secondary education with direct emphasis on information management or library and information studies, and a minimum of three years related experience, preferably in an information management role. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

You are proficient in current software programs to extract and present detailed information to a non technical audience, and have demonstrated the ability to prioritize workloads and respond to new work demands on short notice.

A demonstrated interest or experience in the not for profit sector, and an understanding of the ways in which human services are delivered in Nova Scotia will be considered a definite asset.
