The Northern Secwepemc te Qelmucw (NStQ) are seeking an energetic and self-motivated individual to coordinate the effective development and operation of the NStQ Joint Resources Committee (JRC).
The JRC is composed of the Natural Resource Managers and Treaty Managers of the four Northern Secwepemc te Qelmucw (“NStQ”) communities— Soda Creek Indian Band, Canim Lake Indian Band, Stswecem’c/Xgat’tem First Nation (formerly Canoe Creek Indian Band) and Williams Lake Indian Band. The JRC is responsible for designing and implementing a collaborative approach among the 4 NStQ Bands toward natural resource management and negotiating a government-to-government shared decision-making agreement with the Province of British Columbia with respect to resource development within the NStQ territory.
This is a full-time term position until March 31, 2016. However, the intention of NStQ is to obtain further funding to make it a permanent position.
Duties: Under the supervision of the Soda Creek Indian Band Administrator, the JRC Coordinator will coordinate the effective development and operation of the NStQ Joint Resources Committee. Duties will include:
researching and reporting on current NStQ stewardship capacity and approaches to stewardship taken by other First Nations collectives;
working with the JRC to develop a collaborative NStQ approach to resource-based decision-making;
developing and managing a Portal referral tracking system as the primary tool for engagement between NStQ and government or industry on resource development proposals;
occasional travel to NStQ communities and elsewhere in the NStQ territory;
coordinating and reporting on JRC meetings and other meetings with government and industry;
managing the project budget;
reporting on JRC activities to the NStQ Leadership Council and others; and
seeking further funding to make the position sustainable.
Qualifications: The successful candidate will have a minimum of a diploma or certificate in natural resource management or an equivalent combination of training and experience. He or she will have good oral and written communication skills, organizational ability, a commitment to collaborative team work and good knowledge of NStQ culture and territory.
A criminal record check, valid BC drivers license and a vehicle in good working condition are also required.
Salary: Commensurate with experience.
