Conservation Programs Volunteer Coordinator – Ducks Unlimited Canada – Edmonton / Calgary, Alberta

(one-year term position; possible renewal for at least two additional years)

The Opportunity

Ducks Unlimited Canada, Canada’s leader in wetland conservation, is seeking a confident, energetic and dedicated Conservation Programs Volunteer Coordinator to join our team in Alberta. As a member of our provincial conservation team, you will engage interested community volunteers to assist with inspecting, monitoring and reporting of DUC’s conservation projects.

In this position, you will:

Facilitate annual habitat inspections with the operations team in locations throughout the province
Collaborate with DUC operations staff to monitor projects for field inspections such as vegetation management and overall health
Build and maintain a network of community volunteers
Educate volunteers on duties and responsibilities
Establish frequent, effective and meaningful communication and support to DUC volunteer and event programs
Provide land-based, interactive and applied education into the biological function of wetlands and how those functions produce ecological goods and services that are valuable to society
Serve as the primary point of contact for volunteers
Ensure ongoing communication and engagement with volunteers in order to nurture a greater commitment to DUC and our Mission.
Be based from our Calgary or Edmonton office and work twenty-eight (28) hours per week.

Requirements

Degree, diploma or certificate in Environmental Sciences, Agriculture, Biology or associated discipline with a minimum of three years related experience.
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Team player who is also able to work independently
Strong organizational, time management and leadership skills
Ability to build and maintain positive working relationships with staff and volunteers
Strong attention to detail
Affinity to the outdoors, conservation and the world of waterfowl
