Community Programs Coordinator – Second Harvest – Toronto

WE ARE:
Second Harvest is Canada’s largest food rescue organization and expert in perishable food recovery. We rescue surplus, unsold food from across the supply chain and redistribute it to not-for-profits across the country to feed communities.
Second Harvest has a growing network of more than 1,500 non-profit and charitable agency partners that we redistribute food to, over 300 of which are Toronto-based. Second Harvest is looking for an adaptive, innovative, and strategic thinker to join our team as the Community Programs Coordinator. Reporting into the Manager, Community Programs, this position is created to help support our agency network, develop and implement core programs and drive Second Harvest’s community impact.
We are looking for someone who is partnership minded, driven by positive community development and social change, and who has community programming and food sector knowledge. The Community Programs Coordinator will be a strong and clear communicator, data-driven and motivated by people, change, and constant learning; someone who is both a visionary and willing to climb into the trenches to get the job done.

YOU WILL:
Feeding Our Future
Support the oversite of hamper program for children, youth and families, managing inventory and weekly ordering of food supplies;
Clean and sanitize production space before, during and after shifts, and ensure team is complying with social distancing regulation and following health and safety protocols;
Lead and direct support staff and volunteers in production, cleaning and sanitizing, organizing inventory, and planning for upcoming shifts;
Maintain positive relationships with program partners, including corporate volunteer supporters;
Determine areas of improvement for program and provide feedback as needed.

Training & Education
Provide training and education to partner agencies and external partners on safe food handling, food waste prevention, and basic food literacy;
Support the development of educational materials and identify opportunities to expand resources available to partner agencies and the general public;
Identify opportunities to grow Second Harvest programs and collaborative initiatives to strengthen the organization’s reputation as a thought leader in food literacy and food rescue;
Support with the coordination of training schedules, bookings, registration, payments, and tracking key performance indicators.
Agency Relations
Support Second Harvest partner agencies by resolving questions and/or concerns through daily support and communication;
Ensure agency database information is up-to-date;
Collect and maintain impact stories on Second Harvest recipient agencies;
Perform site visits and inspections with Second Harvest partner agencies as needed to assess partner agency’s success in delivering programs, compliance with Second Harvest agreements, and to discuss other challenges they may be facing;
Support with community events, outreach, and public speaking about the work of Second Harvest as needed.

Admin
Generate, summarize, and analyze data for internal and external reports;
Identify and evaluate risks associated with program activities and take appropriate action to control any risks;
Identify opportunities for Second Harvest to contribute to reduce of overall costs of delivering community food programs;
Conduct post-program evaluations; support with the develop a program end feedback report;
Perform other related duties as required or assigned to support the overall goals of the organization.
